Dr. Steven Minaglia, creator and organizer of Maui Nui Swim completed his own 46th swim crossing of the Maui Nui channels and his 10th completion of the Maui Nui Swim event on January 10, 2026. Through 15 years of careful observation and data analysis he created an algorithm for crossing the Maui Nui channels as efficiently as possible, including the above optimal course design of ʻAuʻau-Pailolo-Kalohi. This course design has also been proposed by such local legends as Mike Spalding and Dr. Harry Huffaker. A good idea becomes great when its effectiveness is established by consistent experience and concrete knowledge.
HCSA will issue a one of a kind certificate and cap for completing the Triple Maui Nui Swim. Click here to see how this swim is ratified and recorded.
